The Notice and Know Technique for Parenting
The Notice and Know Technique
The other day, I was thinking about the challenges inherent in raising intense children...and I know full well all that it can entail.
I came up with an easy two-step process to keep ourselves grounded and self-regulated, first, so we can have a better chance to help our kids do the same!
Step One: Notice
Step One: We need to notice how we are feeling. It's helpful to take stock of what our own nervous systems are are doing...and the first line of defense is always to calm ourselves first!
See our reel on this topic on Instagram.
Step Two: Know
Step Two: Know that our children are not out to get us...they are out to get our help!
That's it.
These are the first steps towards helping our children get back to calm. It all starts with us.
